Ode to Dead Wondrous Futures

From the pure, distant, wondrous future
Which none of us will ever reach,
Through worries and the aching sorrow.
Comes hope for things beyond tomorrow

Amidst the silver morning dew,
Upon the road still yet untrodden
Comes song so beautiful and haunting
That foretells naught but nothingness.

Step by step, lightly still skipping
Praying that none are left behind
The hands outstretched and eyes wide open,
I hope that there is more to find.

A deep voice in my heart compels me,
To step by step continue on.
A shining purity assails me,
And the world’s cruelty is gone.

Just for a moment, between silence.
So much again, still like the past.
And then the present finally moves on
For no future is built to last.
